Scope

Historical research and the projects that are created by it in digital environment present many advantages compared to conventional formats. They are environment friendly in contrast to printed publications, which burdened environment to a significant degree. They are enduring, while they can be reproduced perpetually without loss of quality. A greater number of users can exploit them with no distance limitations. Users can extract or copy parts of them and send them wherever it is necessary. They are maintained rather easily and occupy little natural space. They have smaller production and distribution cost. They contribute to the preservation of time and resources, since anyone can access them from distance. They can bring income to the organizations that create them and can be administrated either directly or indirectly from parallel services (printing of parts, subscriptions, photographs and copyrights from use or promotion, specialized research, organization of multimedia or virtual exhibitions and spectacles etc). They can incorporate very quickly the newest results of research, they can be systematically updated, be corrected without with no essential cost and include huge amount of digitized information from other sources. They can be continuously updated both with direct information and with links to other general or special works available to the world wide web. They can assume forms that were unknown up to now and to reconstruct environments and phenomena in faraway places and times (VR). Finally, they can facilitate learning and the educational procedure, to be of better service to research and contribute to the democratization of knowledge and the abolition of social, economic and cultural barriers.
