EUROPEAN AND NATIONAL COLLABORATIONS



TOURBOT: The aim of the programme was the creation of a robot that would function as an interactive guide, capable of providing personal access to cultural exhibitions through the Internet. FHW’s History and Archaeology Department analyzed and developed the historical and archaeological information that appear on the  Foundation’s web page about the exhibition “Krossia, Chitones, Doulamades, Velades - 4000 years of Hellenic costume”, where the specific programme was implemented.

M-PIRO: For this programme of automatic production of natural language and voice composition, FHW’s historians created the digital collection and wrote the texts of the descriptions for the implementation of the programme on the Internet. They also set the specifications for the quality of the texts created by the system and examined the accuracy and validity of information.

ARTNOUVEAU:
FHW’s History and Archaeology Department contributed to this project/ European thematic network using its experience in defining new approaches for the presentation of arts and culture in a lively, personal and user-friendly way. Furthermore, it participated in the promotion of the project presenting scientific papers in international and national conferences. 


E-CULTURE NET:
The development of a European Digital Network of Cultural Research and Education. The department contributed to the comparative study of the use of new technologies in cultural organizations in Greece and in the wider area of the Mediterranean. Furthermore, it participated in the creation of the national and Mediterranean network of organizations. Medina: The creation of a cultural / tourist portal of 13 Mediterranean countries. e-muse: The development of joint online educational activities to schools and museums about the Olympic Games.



AVATON: The promotion of the natural and cultural elements of the Aegean with the contribution of modern technology and focusing on the islands of Santorini and Lesvos.



LeGa: This project aimed at the creation of the necessary technological infrastructure and the social-economic conditions for a new educational approach, for ages 6-15 years old, based on the use of new technologies. The department’s historians provided historical information and documentation of the scenarios that were based on the concept of historical travels through time and space.

Archaeorama:
The development of advanced tools for understanding, managing and promoting the results from excavations in a friendly and easy to understand way.

Greekworks: is an original educational programme, funded by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology, which aims at familiarizing students with ancient Greek technology through the use of new technologies. Many institutes participate in the programme, while FHW was mainly responsible for the creation of the notional and historical framework, the collection of material and its digitization. 

SEEArchWeb: The creation of distance education courses and support material for academic research and teaching in issues of archaeology in southeastern Europe.

Chrysalises: Creation of a complete educational software. Historians contributed with the incorporation of the information from the Internet project “Hellenic History on the Internet” into the tool and with the control of the application.

MetaOn: The development of an Internet application of “smart” information search and retrieval in texts (Greek/English) and photographic material, utilizing technologies of processing natural language, processing of images and drawing knowledge from texts. 

DiaChoron: The development of a complete system of knowledge management, through which the user will be able to draw spatial information (a) in different geographical scales (b) in relation to time data (c) in relation to thematic fields and finally (d) a combination of all the above.
