Black Sea

The Encyclopedia of the Black Sea, the third volume of the Encyclopedia of the Hellenic World, follows the structure and the organizational principles of the whole project and focuses on Hellenic history and culture on the coasts of the Black Sea from the colonies of Antiquity to the communities of modern times. In this way it complements the previous two volumes of the Encyclopedia of the Hellenic World, while at the same time it expands to the wider area of the Balkans, the Central and Eastern Europe.

The collaboration of researchers that come from the wider area of the coasts of the Black Sea reflects the multiformity and the wealth of the history and culture of the Black Sea coasts from the Balkans to Caucasus, where Hellenic presence always played a linking role.
