Our journey in this second documentary of the series begins at Teos, whose temple of Dionysus, the largest and most famous in the region, and theatre, dating from the 2nd century BC, are considered to be the city's most important monuments. It is a shared passion for the theatre that guides the two narrators to their nest step: Erythrae, whose theatre was built in the 3rd century BC. The remains of Antiquity, Byzantium as well as later periods, are visible. Close to the temple of Athena Polliados (8th-7th century BC) the church of Aghia Matronas built in the 18th century, the walls of the Hellenistic period surround the remains of the Ancient and Byzantine city. In the same area, what was later called Lythri, was built. Magnesia, our next stop, boasts the imposing temple of Artemis, the work of Hermogenes from Priene dating back from ca 130 BC and replacing a smaller one dedicated to the goddess Mother-Kyveli. Magnesia remained a dynamic presence into the Byzantine era, when it became an Episcopal seat.

Smyrna, our last stop was, at its peak, a vibrant and highly creative city. The Agora, the Evangelical School, the "Franchomahalas", - the economic and commercial centre of the city, and its theatre all testify to the glory of its Hellenic past.
