The Olympic victors
For every athlete, his family and his friends participating to the Olympic games was the most important experience of a lifetime. Many great athletes have left their mark in Olympia during the twelve centuries of the competition and became legends, immortal in people's conscience. Famous athletes of the 6th century BC were still commemorated in the 2nd century AD, like the wrestler Milon from Croton.
In this unit there is brief information concerning some of the most famous Olympic victors like Theagenes of Thasos, Leonidas and Diagoras of Rhodes, Milon and Astylos of Croton, Polydamas of Scotoussa, Melankomas of Karia and Herodorus of Megara.
