The historical narrative

The historical narrative was a lighter and more popular form of historical writing than the History itself. It contained a variety of information on events in world history, starting from Adam to the author's day, which was of the kind we would qualify today as "light journalism". Although this narrative was aimed primarily at the reader's entertainment, it provides us with important information on the period. During Late Byzantine times, several men of letters, among whom John Sikeliotes, Theodore Skoutariotes, Constantine Manasses, Ephraim, Michael Panaretos and John Anagnostes, occupied themselves with the writing of historical narratives.
